Dear New Mercer Faculty:

Congratulations on your respective new appointments and welcome to Mercer University!  On behalf of the Mercer University Junior Faculty League--or JFL--we wish to extend our greetings and salutations.

What is JFL, you ask, and why is it bothering me at this very busy time in my life?  As new hires at Mercer soon to be transitioning to Macon, JFL wishes to inform you of our existence before (hopefully) you begin your actual physical transition to Mercer, so that we might serve as a resource to assist you in your move (more below).

So, what is JFL?  JFL seeks (in brief) to provide an organized, yet still casual structure for junior faculty to meet and to socialize, as well as to gather more formally to discuss (and to act upon) issues and concerns relevant to junior faculty.  JFL solicits input and participation from all junior faculty across disciplines and colleges in the university, and we hope that you will join us in the fall for a year of friendship, fellowship, and fun, as well as for planned seminars to address teaching issues, advising, tenure and promotion, etc.

Now, how may JFL help you transition to Macon?  JFL has its own junior faculty list-serve for announcements, questions, discussion of issues, problems, and concerns, etc. relevant to junior faculty.  When you get your Mercer email accounts, JFL will add you to the list, so that you may use it.  In the meantime, however, please do email any of us below with any questions that you have about Mercer/Macon.  We will do our best to answer your inquiries, as well as forward your questions to the listserv; hopefully, then, you will receive many helpful replies.  Again, please contact any of us if you have any questions.  We look forward to meeting you all at New Faculty Orientation in early August.
